Past, Present, and Future I was born in Warrensburg, Missouri on April 19 of 2000. My dad had chosen my name after his mother s name and decided to name me Yoana Nandho Rafael. My grandmother name was Juana, and I was given the last name of both of my parents. It’s a common tradition in the Hispanic cultural to give both the father and the mother last name to their child. I usually only go by my first last name. I was raised in Sedalia, Missouri most of my life. I’m the second oldest of four. My oldest sister name is Aurora Rafael, my younger sister is Lizbeth Nandho Rafael, which she mostly goes by Liz. The youngest of my family is my brother Ivan Nandho Rafael. My parents name are Jesus Nandho Salvador and Veronica Rafael Martinez. My family is the most important part of my life. My first language is Spanish, because I come from parents who are immigrants from Mexico, who only know Spanish. I lived in Mexico for a whole year during Kindergarten. I had to walk at least an hour through small little roads surrounded by cactus to get to school. My sister and I could have taken the main road which was a faster way to get to school, but there where drunk people surrounding some areas of the road. My parents didn’t want my sister nor I to be harmed, so they made us take the longer way. Over there in Mexico there s no such thing as buses, you have to walk or find your own transportation.
